Graeme Hall 1942-2015

The VWA was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Graeme Hall on 4th February 2015. Graeme was not only a great athlete but was also a great supporter of weightlifting.

Graeme Hall represented Australia at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, 1966 Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica and was Australian champion in 1966 and 1967. That is Graeme’s sporting record, yet impressive as it is, it does not come close to reflecting Graeme’s standing in the weightlifting community and the respect he commanded from different generations of the sport.

Graeme loved weightlifting and always had its best interests at heart. He kept a keen interest in the sport for many years and also coached his son McGregor to Australian junior and senior titles as well as representing Australia at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

Softly spoken he may have been but Graeme’s words were always wise, perceptive and usually delivered with humility and a touch of humour. He provided inspiration and support to many and had the ability to communicate with people of varied personalities and all ages. I will be one of many who will miss him.

- A tribute by Robert Kabbas on behalf of the Victorian Weightlifting Association.
