I hope you’ve all had a safe and relaxing holiday period. The 2023 weightlifting year is well and truly under way, with the first sanctioned competition of the year taking place over the weekend.
Senior Nationals:
Excitingly, Victoria has won the bid to host the Senior Australian National Championships! Nationals are set to be held on 4th-6th August at the Victorian Weightlifting Stadium in Hawthorn. The qualification period extends from 16th December 2022-18th June 2023 with entries closing on 23rd June. Qualifying standards can be found in the link below.

Junior/U23/Youth/U15 Nationals
Locations for Junior and Youth Nationals have been finalised:

Junior/U23- Townsville QLD 21st-23rd April (qualifying period 02/09/22-05/03/23)

Youth/U15- Balcatta, WA 3rd-5th Nov (qualifying period 17/03-17/09/23)
Operations Manager:
The new Operations Manager, Prayansh Desai, will commence on Monday 30 January 2023. Prayansh will assist in administrative duties and competition management, reporting to the VWA President. Prayansh will usually work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Prayansh has an impressive skillset in sport management but is new to the world of weightlifting. Please make him feel welcome and keep in mind when interacting with him and the VWA that our sport is run by a volunteer board and one part-time staff member.
Memberships:
Thank you to all the members who have already paid their membership fee this year. A reminder that memberships must be submitted and paid for before competing at sanctioned events. VWA membership operates on a calendar year basis.

Club affiliation membership is also open. You can find the downloadable form from the website under the resources tab. Note that clubs must register for their members to be a part of the VWA by the start of February 2023, otherwise their membership will default to independent. VWA affiliation operates on a calendar year basis.
